The Largest High-end Titanium Alloy 17t Vacuum Self-consumption Electric Arc Furnace in China Is Put Into Operation in Tiancheng Aero Materials

Apr 28, 2022

Recently, the 17t vacuum self-consumption electric arc furnace (hereinafter referred to as "VAR furnace") of the second phase of technical reform and expansion of Tiancheng Aviation Materials was officially put into operation, successfully producing TA1 ingots with diameter 1080mm, length 2850mm and single weight 12t. After testing, the ingot surface quality and chemical composition all meet the process design requirements.

The 17t VAR furnace imported from Austria INTECO can produce titanium and titanium alloy ingots with maximum diameter of 1160mm, maximum length of 3700mm and maximum single weight of 17t, refreshing the limit of single weight of ingots in China again.

The equipment achieves a new breakthrough in the process of "one pole, one ingot", which can melt 12.5t single weight of whole electrode at one time, avoiding the quality risk caused by primary ingot welding to the greatest extent and improving the stability of ingots within and between batches. The annual capacity of secondary ingots of the equipment reaches 2700t, which is one of the largest and most advanced vacuum self-consumption electric arc furnaces in China.

At the same time, the last 10t VAR furnace of the second phase of the technical reform and expansion project of Tiancheng Aviation Materials has entered the final commissioning stage and will be officially put into operation in the near future. By then, after all 8 vacuum self-consumption furnaces are in full production, the annual capacity of ingot casting can reach 10000t.

The full production of 17tVAR furnace marks the quality upgrade of the company's melting capacity again, which will further meet the demand of high-end titanium alloy research and development trial production and capacity enhancement, and promote the rapid transformation and upgrading of domestic titanium alloy.
